Lithology and Thickness
To this, moraines of the maximum ancient valley glaciation (second in the recent history of the Pamir) are referred, as well as synchronous alluvial, lacustrine, and lacustrine-alluvial sediments, up to 20-200 m thick. In the present river valleys, the Murghab Gr is represented by thick layers of alluvial gravels, in the depressions (Alichur, Karakul, Salangur, etc.) - by clayey lacustrine deposits, overlain by moraines of the last glaciation. Terraces have heights above the valley bottoms from 4-6 to 60 m. In many valleys, the alluvium transitions into moraines that fill the valley bottoms. From the point of view of correlating Quaternary deposits of the Pamir, the lacustrine interglacial clays are most interesting.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Overlie moraines of the lower Quaternary East Pamir Gr.
Upper contact
They themselves are overlain by moraines of the considered Murghab Gr.
Regional extent
It is distributed in the Pamir. They are established at many points (Lake Karakul, Lake Salangur, rivers Kyzyldzhyik, Ak-Dzhilga, in the lower reaches of the Alichur River, etc.)
